NeeDoh is to 2026 as Beanie Babies Were To 1996

Remember the collecting craze in the late 1990s?

Beanie Babies were the hot toy – and you didn’t stop at just one. Oh, no – the stuffed animals with “tush tags” came as popular characters like Spot the Dog, Princess the Bear, and Mystic the Unicorn – and the goal was to collect as many as you could find!

Well, 30 years later, the new craze is NeeDoh! It’s a sensory toy – super soft, super squishy, super stretchy. It’s basically a blob that you just squeeze and smush and then watch it go back to its regular shape.

Just like Beanie Babies, they are selling like crazy and most kids don’t want just one. They tend to sell out quickly – so when a store restocks, there can be lines down the block waiting to get inside and get one.

NeeDoh is so scarce because manufacturers can’t keep up with demand. The maker, Schylling, said NeeDoh’s popularity is in part because it appeals to not just children, but also tweens, teens, young adults, collectors, even parents and grandparents!

So in a Throwback moment, here’s a look back at the Beanie Babies craze in the 1990s!
