After announcing a hiatus from returning to their tour, longtime Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts died today at the age of 80.  Watts was one of the original members of the band alongside Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, and Bill Wyman.

Though not as flashy as the group’s front man – Jagger – or as outrageous as Richards – Watts is known as having provided a musical backbone to the group since its launch in the early 1960s.

Already, celebrity tributes are beginning to pour in for this rock and roll icon.  We’ll keep you posted as more are available, and we’ll be thinking of Charlie, his band family, and his extended family and friends too.
