Mariah Carey’s Heartbreaking Loss

Mariah Carey lost both her mother, Patricia, and sister, Alison, on the same day over the weekend.

People Magazine received a statement from the singer, reading “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Details surrounding the causes of death have not been released.

Carey had complicated relationships with both her mother and sister. Carey dedicated her 2020 memoir in part to her mother: “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe she actually did the best she could.”

Carey also wrote in her memoir that at the time, it was “emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact” with her mother or sister.
