Let’s Normalize These 2000s Emo Anthems In 2021

Politicians have tried. Big brands have tried. Pretty much every social media platform on the planet have tried. Yet, none of them are able to bring everyone in America together for the holidays.

There’s only one force strong enough to reunite these United States. The power of emo music.

In the 2000s, emo music was more than just a musical genre. It was a lifestyle. Fashion. And oh my days the hair. Being emo meant nobody understood you (especially those annoying parents,) everyone else’s taste in music was trash, and wearing all black was never even a choice. That’s the kind of attitude we need to bring America together this holiday season.

So let’s trot down memory lane and recall the 2000s emo anthems that need to make a comeback in 2021.

Hawthorne Heights – Ohio Is For Lovers

SO CUT MY WRISTS AND BLACK MY EYYYYYYYYYYYYYES. If this one doesn’t instantly make you want to thrash around, you may want to seek medical attention.

My Chemical Romance – Helena

Some could argue that this entire list could be My Chemical Romance songs, and they’d be right. We landed on Helena because from about :07 seconds in, this is the emo sound of the 2000s. Gerard Way was (and still is) untouchable vocal-wise.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus – Face Down

Emo wasn’t necessarily for its social commentary, but when TRJA tackled domestic violence, we listened. Great song, important message.

Taking Back Sunday – Cute Without The ‘E’

Come on, the word cut is in the title! That alone puts it on emo’s Mount Rushmore.

Paramore – Misery Business

Paramore being called “emo” may be a point of contention for some. But with the punk rock vibes of their early stuff, Hayley’s amazing rainbow hair, and some tantalizing hooks, Paramore was the force to be reckoned with in the mid-2000s.
