LOVE TRAX: What Does This Song Have To Do With Elvis?
Today’s THROWBACK LOVE TRAX dates back to Elvis Presley!
We’re sharing the stories behind your favorite love songs of the ’80s and ’90s and today, it’s “Eternal Flame” by the Bangles!
The song was released in 1989 and hit No. 1 in nine countries, including the U.S.
Bangles member Susanna Hoffs says she was inspired to write “Eternal Flame” after visiting Elvis’ home, Graceland.
Hoffs said, “we were taken out to the Garden of Memories, and there was this little box which was supposed to have a lit flame in it, an eternal flame. Actually, that day it was raining so the flame was not on.”
So, while the song may have been inspired by the eternal flame at Elvis’ grave, it’s more about undying love, and will the ‘flame’ burn out?
The song is also different in that it has no real chorus – take a look!
