5 Fun Facts About Debbie Harry of Blondie
Deborah Harry is celebrating her 79th birthday today!
You may know her better as Debbie Harry, the lead singer of the band Blondie, who brought us songs like “Heart of Glass,” “Call Me,” and “The Tide Is High.”
She helped form Blondie in 1974 and has been rockin’ ever since!

- She was born Angela Trimble. When she was three months old, she was adopted by her parents, Richard and Catherine Harry, and renamed Deborah Ann Harry.
- She struck up a friendship with artist Andy Warhol, who created a series of portraits of Harry in different colors. She said Warhol taught her to always be open to new things.
- Harry is also an actress! She appeared in the 1988 film “Hairspray,” along with several independent films in the 1980s. She also just appeared in a short film that premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, titled “Catharsis.”
- She was hit on once by David Bowie in a rather crude way, and her cheeky response was perfect. You can read more about it here.
- Harry has said that getting older is hard on her looks, and she doesn’t shy away from talking about plastic surgery. “I think it’s the same as having a flu shot basically, another way of looking after yourself,” she wrote her in memoir “Face It.”
