BLACK HISTORY MONTH THROWBACK SPOTLIGHT: James Brown; more than JUST the ’60s.
James' career included new hits WELL INTO the 1980s!
Today’s Black History Month Throwback Spotlight is shining on the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. Of course, we love his songs from the 1960s, like “I Got You (I Feel Good),” “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag,” “It’s A Man’s World,” and so many others, but James’ career got a resurgence in the 1980s too, thanks to someone else we were spotlighting earlier this week: Rick James.
Rick helped produce James’ comeback song featured in ROCKY IV, “Living In America,” which gave him a boost on the big screen – and in the pocketbook. Brown also appeared in MC Hammer’s video for “2 Legit To Quit.” Their energetic style was always compared on stage, though as we know, Brown’s spotlight shone brighter for many more years than Hammer’s did.
Let’s enjoy that final big hit of James’ career – and reflect on all the amazing work he did tonight!
