LOVE TRAX: Disney’s First #1!

We’re feeling all the love this month with our THROWBACK LOVE TRAX! We’re picking your favorite love songs from the ’80s and ’90s and telling you the stories behind the songs!

Today we’re taking a closer look at “A Whole New World” by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle.

It’s the signature song from the 1992 Disney animated film “Aladdin.”

It was the first song from a Disney animated film to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was able to break Whitney Houston’s 14-week streak on top with “I Will Always Love You.” And maybe even more incredible, it was the only Disney song to hit No. 1 until “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from “Encanto” in 2022!

The song also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1993, a Grammy award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television, and it won the Grammy for Song of the Year.
