THROWBACK GAMES: Run the Track

Let the Throwback Games begin!

We caught the Olympic fever here at Throwback Nation Radio!

The International Olympic Committee was founded in 1894 on the belief that sport can contribute to peace and to the harmonious development of humankind.

Hey, we would argue that music can do the same thing!

We love the thrill of competition – so every night, we’re bringing you our Throwback Games, and naming the top three songs in each category!

Tonight we kick things off by hitting the track. Here are our Top 3 Songs About Running!

#3 “Run To You” by Whitney Houston

This song was on “The Bodyguard” soundtrack in 1992. It was nominated for Best Original Song at the 1993 Academy Awards, but lost to “Whole New World” from Aladdin. The video features Houston running through clouds!

#2 “Run-Around” by Blues Traveler

This song was from 1994, and it was the breakthrough hit for Blues Traveler. The band also won its first Grammy Award for this song in 1996, in the category of Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. The term run-around doesn’t exactly mean to run around anything… but it does mean someone is being evasive or avoiding a question!

#1 “Running Down a Dream” by Tom Petty

This song is from 1989 and was on his first solo album Full Moon Fever. Some say this song is an ode to life on the road… the pursuit of one’s dream… whether that be playing music to thousands of screaming fans, or running on an oval track at the Olympics!
